The Eagle and the oakleaves most probably refer to Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte (1763-1844), marshall of France during Napoleon and elected heir presumptive to the Swedish throne by the Riksdag on August 21st, 1810. He assumed the name Karl Johan and from 1818 reigned as Karl XIV of Sweden and Karl III Johan of Norway, which country he had forced to secede from Denmark and form a union with Sweden. The women in Paris gave him the nickname Belles Jambes, Nice Legs. Napeoleon raised him to to rank of Sovereign Prince of Ponte Corvo, a former Papal dependency in southern Italy and the Eagle became part of his coat of arms, also in Sweden. Oakleaves adorned the uniforms of Napleon’s marshalls.
